Technical Background

The temperature treatment methods in medical industry are microwave therapy, microwave hyperthermia, radiofrequency hyperthermia, and magnetic resonance imaging. In microwave hyperthermia, the main factor affecting the accuracy of temperature measurement results is the interference of microwave or radio frequency. The metal made temperature sensor probe will produce inductive current in microwave field, which makes the measurement results cannot reflect the real temperature of tumor tissues. Whether hyperthermia is effective, the key question is to heat the tumor above the effective treatment temperature. If the tumor temperature is below the treatment temperature, not only has no treatment effect, but also may promote the spread of the tumor, if the temperature is too high, may damage the normal tissue, in about 42℃,1℃ difference can cause multiple changes of cell survival rate. Clinical temperature measurement accuracy within 37℃ ~ 46℃ should be within ±0.2℃, so accurate temperature measurement is the key technology in microwave hyperthermia.
